The Holy Family Catholic Nursing & Midwifery Training College, Nkawkaw, has a rich history rooted in the Catholic Church’s mission to provide quality healthcare and education in Ghana. The institution was established in 1974 by the Missionary Sisters, Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) as an Enrolled Nursing School, with the primary goal of training nurses to deliver holistic and compassionate care to patients.
As the demand for skilled health professionals grew, the college expanded its academic offerings. In 1984, it introduced the State Registered Nursing Programme, providing a higher level of professional training. By 2000, the college launched the Registered General Nursing (Diploma) Programme, further strengthening its position as a premier institution for nursing education in Ghana.
In response to the increasing need for maternal and child healthcare, the college added the Registered Midwifery (Diploma) Programme in 2023, affiliated with the University of Cape Coast (UCC). This addition complemented the existing Registered General Nursing Programme, which is affiliated with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
From its humble beginnings, the college has grown into a modern health training institution with state-of-the-art facilities, including ICT laboratories, skills acquisition labs, a well-stocked library, and strong partnerships with healthcare facilities across Ghana.
Today, Holy Family Catholic Nursing & Midwifery Training College continues its legacy of excellence, training Christ-like, professional health workers who uphold the values of Fidelity, Professionalism, Compassion, and Discipline, and who are prepared to serve both locally and globally.
